Notes & Wine Advice

Serving Suggestions

Use the cauliflower crusts as the base for your favourite Pizza. Add tomato sauce, mozzarella and vegetables for a simple topping, then return the assembled pizza to the Airfryer for approximately 3 minutes at 200°C.

Recipe Notes

Remove as much moisture as possible from homemade cauliflower rice. Excess water can make the crust soft and more difficult to hold together. Spread the mixture evenly in the pizza pans so the crust cooks consistently.

Making Cauliflower Rice

Ready-made cauliflower rice can be used, but it is also easy to prepare at home. Grate cauliflower using a box grater, or blend cauliflower florets with water until they resemble rice. Drain thoroughly and pat dry before using.

Variations

Broccoli rice or a mixture of broccoli and cauliflower rice can be used to create a different Vegetables base. The finished crust can be topped in many different ways, making this a useful Basic recipe.

Storage Advice

Allow cooked crusts to cool completely before refrigerating them in an airtight container. Keep for up to 3 days. Reheat briefly in the air fryer before adding toppings for the best texture.

Wine Advice

A fresh Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with vegetable-based pizza toppings. For pizzas topped with mozzarella, Parmesan and richer ingredients, a Chardonnay is another suitable choice.

About Cauliflower Pizza Crusts

Cauliflower Pizza Crusts offer a vegetable-based alternative to traditional flour pizza dough. Cauliflower rice is combined with egg, mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic and Italian seasoning to create a mixture that becomes firm and lightly golden in the Airfryer. Once cooked, the crust can be topped and returned to the air fryer for a quick homemade Pizza.

Why Cauliflower Works as a Pizza Base

Cauliflower has a relatively mild flavour, allowing it to work with many familiar pizza toppings. When finely chopped into cauliflower rice, it can be mixed with cheese and egg to create a crust that holds together after cooking.

The result is different from a traditional bread-based pizza crust. It is softer and more vegetable-forward, but the mozzarella and Parmesan add richness and help bind the cauliflower together.

Preparing Cauliflower Rice

Packaged cauliflower rice is the quickest option, but making it yourself is straightforward. A box grater can turn fresh cauliflower into small rice-sized pieces. Alternatively, cauliflower florets can be processed with water and then thoroughly drained.

Removing moisture is particularly important. Cauliflower naturally contains plenty of water, and a wet mixture can produce a soft crust. Pat homemade cauliflower rice thoroughly dry before combining it with the remaining ingredients.

Cheese and Egg as Binders

The egg, mozzarella and Parmesan perform an important structural role. The egg helps bind the cauliflower pieces together, while the cheeses melt during cooking and provide additional structure as well as flavour.

Because Parmesan and mozzarella already contribute salt, only a small amount of additional salt is required. Italian seasoning and fresh garlic provide the familiar savoury flavours associated with Italian-inspired pizza.

Cooking the Crust in the Air Fryer

Dividing the mixture between two pizza pans makes the crusts easier to handle. Spread each portion into an even layer so the centre and edges cook at approximately the same rate.

The crusts are cooked individually for approximately 12 minutes. Once firm, they can be topped and returned to the air fryer for another few minutes to heat the toppings and melt additional cheese.

Choosing Pizza Toppings

These crusts can be topped just like other pizzas. Tomato sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms, peppers and other Vegetables are simple choices. Keep very wet toppings to a minimum because excess moisture can soften the cauliflower base.

For a richer version, add extra cheese or another favourite pizza topping. Because the crust itself already contains cheese, a relatively modest amount of topping is usually enough.

A Low-Carb Pizza Alternative

Replacing conventional flour dough with cauliflower substantially changes the carbohydrate profile of the pizza base. This makes cauliflower crust useful when looking for a Low Carb alternative to a conventional pizza crust.

The original ingredients also contain no wheat flour. When preparing the recipe specifically for someone who needs to avoid gluten or wheat, check the labels of grated cheeses, seasoning and other packaged ingredients to confirm suitability.

Serving Cauliflower Pizza

Serve the finished pizzas immediately after the toppings have been heated. A fresh Salad works particularly well alongside them and keeps the meal centred around vegetables.

The crusts can also be cut into smaller pieces and served as an Appetizer once toppings have been added.

Preparing the Crusts Ahead

The crusts can be cooked before they are needed and refrigerated once completely cool. This allows the cauliflower preparation and initial cooking to be completed in advance.

When ready to serve, add the toppings and return the crusts to the air fryer. This is preferable to storing fully assembled pizzas because sauces and other moist toppings can soften the base during refrigeration.

Food Safety

Because the crust contains egg and cheese, refrigerate cooked crusts promptly once cooled and keep them chilled until needed. Reheat prepared pizzas thoroughly before serving. For current guidance on safe preparation, refrigeration and handling of eggs, dairy products and other foods, consult the U.S. Food and Drug Administration food-safety information.

Cauliflower Pizza Crusts provide another way to use Vegetables as the foundation of a familiar meal. With cauliflower, mozzarella, Parmesan and Italian seasoning in the base, they provide plenty of flavour before the first pizza topping is even added.
